Surrogacy in Greece
Surrogacy is when a woman carries a baby for a couple who are unable to conceive or carry a child themselves usually due to medical problems of the intended mother.
Greece's legal framework is one of the most progressive regimes in Europe and only host (or gestational) surrogacy is allowed. Also surrogacy is altruistic by law however, the surrogates receive compensation for expenses that may occur during their pregnancy such as medical care, pregnancy clothing, visits to clinic or doctor transportation, lost wages and all legal costs.
Surrogate mothers must pass medical and psychological tests.
We offer medical consultations and medical care for surrogate mothers for foreigner couples in Greece. We can also organize your trip and stay here in Greece for both the surrogate and the intended parents.
According to the Greek law, surrogacy cannot be undertaken by single or gay men. If a (heterosexual) couple is not married, they can come to Greece sign papers with a notary service, stating that they are a couple and that they request egg donation and surrogacy. The proposed surrogate mother must obtain court approval of the surrogacy arrangement prior to the embryo transfer occurring. Intended parents must also submit evidence of their inability to have a child. Then, the court will issue an authorization in approximately 3-6 months and then we can proceed.
